    29 MAY 2008: Condolences...

It might seem greatly callous to mention this in light of the great tragedies in China and Myanmar, but I wanted to acknowledge the passing of Harvey Korman today. Anyone out there that has been touched by depression knows how valuable laughter is, and Mr. Korman always gave me great joy and laughter with his work in the Carol Burnett Show, Blazing Saddles, and History of the World: Part 1. I offer my condolences to the Korman family, and thank Mr. Korman for his work, which always brought me a great amount of joy.

14 MAY 2008: Go West, Old Woman!

West Virginia gave Hillary Clinton a tetanus-like shot in the arm in their primary, ensuring that our long, national nightmare will continue at least for another week or so. According to the results and the interviews of "regular" West Virginians, the only thing I can say about the results of this primary and those that participated is that West Virginia has made Strom Thurmond proud. After all, it is tougher these days to hold on to those classic early-1960s values.

Honestly, the state reacted as if Obama walked in like Cleavon Little in Blazing Saddles and opened his first appearance in the state with a resounding "Where all the white women at?!"

And Hillharpy is proud of the result and her support.

One irony is that after this primary, Obama got the support of a key southern white male, John Edwards. Am I the only one who saw the timing of this as poetic?

    01 MAY 2008: What I'm...

  • Reading: Tudors: King Takes Queen by Elizabeth Massie. Still trying to finish a book...

  • Watching: Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie. Just re-released on DVD, this is an all-time favorite of mine. Considering I took a two-hour road trip when it was released years ago to see the thing, it ought to be.

  • Listening: Soundtrack: Iron Man. The film was probably the best Marvel Comics based film yet, and the score was a nice, rousing rock score. While I would have liked the original Iron Man song included, the fact that the album's producers included the 1960s cartoon theme song is just as good.
